Key Stage 2 (7-11 Years)
Key Stage Two - Preparatory Department
Years 3 - 6
The transition from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two is one of those giant stepping stones in every child's education. At Goodwyn we are determined to make this change a happy and exciting one.
The solid foundations that have been laid down in Early Years/Key Stage 1 are now built upon. Literacy and Maths are taught separately and most other subjects are taught through the International Primary Curriculum. Children have longer lessons in Music and French, and Latin is introduced in Years 5 and 6. All classes have daily thinking skills sessions which help develop creative and critical thinking skills.
Children in Key Stage 2 are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their learning and for their equipment. The School/Class Council encourages them to take pride in their school by being included in decision making and initiating positive change.
Pupils in Year 5 and 6 attend camps where they learn not only independence and team building but how to face challenges. These play an important role preparing them for their next school.
We also offer a range of extra-curricular activities including the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.
Goodwyn has a reputation for creating a happy and secure environment for all its children. We measure our success not just in our academic achievement, but in the measure of our children as good citizens.
