We strive to develop the innate musical ability in every pupil at Goodwyn. Pupils follow a course based on performing, listening and composition at all levels. Music lessons are fun and lively while still setting high expectations. They provide a high level of engagement and participation for learners.
From the nursery level children are taught through the Dalcroze and the Kodaly approaches which both stress learning through developing kinesthetic memory. Children are first introduced to musical concepts through experiences such as listening, singing or movement. Concepts are constantly reviewed and reinforced through games, movement, songs and exercises which provide a sound basis on which all children can build their musical abilities.
All children are taught the recorder from Year 1 and an extensive range of instruments plus ensembles are offered from Year 3. The choir performs in a wide variety of national concerts and competitions and has made a recording of its songs. There are many opportunities for our musicians to perform including school concerts. Exams are taken on all instruments including the recorder and we regularly enjoy a very high success rate. Visiting professional musicians and concert outings contribute to enrich their musical experience.
