Drama

“Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand”
Chinese Proverb

Drama is taught as a stand alone subject in Key Stage 2. The above quote really does sum up the essence of Drama where lessons are a careful balance of activities and games enabling children to express themselves creatively, imaginatively and to communicate with others effectively.

Children progress from simple role playing and group work to devising their own scenes and scripts including writing and performing a radio play. They study the art of melodrama and mime in silent movies and then plan, write and perform their own silent film. Self-expression and self-confidence are nurtured and encouraged and children learn to evaluate their own performances and those of others. They learn and experience what it was like to be a passenger on the Titanic, an evacuee in World War II, spend the night in a Haunted House and be Harry Potter all without leaving the school building!
